Dolls have always been the favorite toy of all ages of girl children. Dolls basically come in two major categories which are child dolls and adult dolls. Infant and child dolls were the standard dolls for little and older girls up to 1959 when Mattel, Inc. the giant toy company first introduced the adult toy doll under the brand name “Barbie Doll”. The Barbie dolls were targeted at adolescent girls who identified themselves with the young, smart and modern career minded woman. However, there was another kind of a doll which did not form part of the play toy for little and older girls and this was the exclusive collector dolls manufactured by Madame Alexander. The Madame Alexander Dolls are designed and built for display purposes only. This may sound rather strange to the ear after all one associates dolls with a girl’s play toy with all the wide range of accessories that go with her doll. However, the Madame Alexander societal and commercial philosophy was designed to give another message to the public and that was that the Madame Alexander dolls reflected the culture of a certain period in time and hence were produced for the serious collector of era time dolls. Then target audience was and is the era time doll collector and accordingly the dolls were produced in limited quantities and retailed at Madame Alexander authorized outlets in all major metropolitan cities
Since the dolls were produced in such limited quantities, the produce would always be sold out within a couple weeks after which collectors or the general public with a collector’s bent of mind could only buy the dolls from an auction center, an auction website such as E-Bay or directly from the collector.
