Every once in a while a creative person comes up with a great idea that revolutionizes the world in a manner that one can never ever imagine. Whether it’s a new aircraft, a new train, a new car a new form of architecture a new anything, it is something that impacts the world like no other has ever done. This was the case in 1959 when a creative woman by the name of Ruth Handler created a brand new doll called the Barbie doll. However, like all great ideas the Barbie doll started with a story in the late 50’s when Ruth Handler noted that her daughter, Barbara, and her friends began to play with adult paper dolls rather than the conventional child and infant dolls as young girls did since time immemorial. Ruth handler then hit upon the idea that the concept of adult dolls could very well fire the imagination of millions of early teenage girls in the United Sates and the rest of the world simply because this was virgin territory that no one had yet explores and it was time that young girls needed to break out from this conventional mould of the conventional baby and child doll. Ruth got her husband Eliot to join in with the idea of the adult doll and soon the couple teamed with a Harold Matson to form the world famous Mattel company that is synonymous with toys. Ruth handler decided to call the adult doll Barbie after her daughter, Barbara.

By 1959 Mattel produced Barbie doll that was exhibited at the 1959 New York’s Toy Fair and the most famous of the doll exhibits was the two piece Barbie doll displaying a black and white swim costume. Ever since the Barbie adult doll concept has been a global and phenomenal success for many young girls who wish to identify with the young adult female doll.
