Buying Silver coins is something that any coin collector would want to consider. This is because Silver is a valuable metal and of course they are lower-priced than gold coins. The united States have been issuing Silver Dollar Coins for over 250 years.

One of the most bought American coins is the Silver Eagle Coin. It is quite popular with coin collector and bullion investors. The first one dollar Silver Eagle coins were issued in 1986. Ever since their first issue about 165 million such coins were minted.

Each American Silver Eagle coin contains one ounce of Silver. It has lady Liberty in a walking pose on the obverse (designed by Adolph A. Weinman), while the reverse shows the Heraldic Eagle with Shield (designed by John Mercanti). The design of the coin is iconic and it has been a favorite with the public. This coin was issued in tree different versions, – the first is the uncirculated bullion version of the coin, the second is the collectible proof version and the third is the uncirculated version of the coin which is referred to as Burnished Silver Eagle and it has the ‘W’ mint mark. It is struck on burnished blanks.

The first version can be purchased from authorized bullion dealers and from coin dealers. The second version can be obtained from U.S Mint.

Many coin collectors collect the American Eagle Silver coins according to their dates of issue. Currently, the version that is under circulation is the 2008-W Silver Eagle. These coins were minted using the reverse die of the 2007 Silver Mint. You can distinguish it by the U mark which stand in a bowl shape on the reverse side of the coin.

In 2006 the 20th anniversary of the American Silver Eagle was celebrated with the release of a boxed set, including proof of uncirculation and so far unreleased reverse proof pieces.
